The Lion and the Mouse
A playful illustration from a classic children’s fable.
The Problem
This class project asked us to create an illustration of a page from a fable or old fairy tale using simple shapes. Our characters needed to be expressive, with human-like features or emotions so that they would be appealing to our young audience.
The Solution
To build my characters, I simplified the animals down into a few rounded shapes. I selected a dynamic upward composition to allow the mouse, our main character, to be larger than the lion. I used the round font Nunito to create friendly type, and I gave it motion and color when necessary to emphasize words. These round shapes and bright colors create an engaging scene for young readers.
