The Problem

We were tasked with creating an illustration of a Sun that could be featured on CBS Sunday Morning. Each Sun had to have a theme in order to fit a potential news story.

The Solution

I wanted to depict the Sun as warm, inviting, and friendly. I used bright, warm colors and lots of contrast to draw the eye. I played with textured brushes to add interest. The little astronaut makes the Sun seem enormous and awe inspiring. At the same time, the Sun seems motherly, welcoming the viewer into its warm embrace. I created a scene that could draw the viewer in and invite them to another world.
